Privacy Policy

Last Updated: March 26, 2025

At Joon, we care about you and are committed to protecting your privacy. Our team works hard to keep your personal information private and secure. Our goal is to help you feel comfortable, safe, and informed while using our Services. That’s why we ensure that you know how your information is being used, and maintain high standards for collecting and using personal data.

This Privacy Policy describes how Starling Solutions, Inc., doing business as Joon, and its affiliates, including Joon Care Psychological Corporation (“Joon,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collect, use, and share personal information. If you have any questions about our Privacy Policy, you can ask them at privacy@joon.com.  We’re here to listen, help, and ensure every part of your experience at Joon is safe, supportive, and easy to understand.

When you see "Starling Solutions, Inc.," it’s the legal name of our business, but "Joon"  is the name we use to connect with you and the public. Think of Starling Solutions as your legal name and Joon as the name you use for your social media handle.

When we collect, use, or disclose your personal information, we follow these principles:

  1. We work hard to clearly tell you how we collect, use, or share your  personal data. We want you to know exactly how we handle it.
  2. We only ask for the information we need to provide high-quality teletherapy services. We do not sell your personal information or show you ads on our website or mobile app.
  3. We know that keeping your personal information private is important, so we only use or share your personal information for the reasons explained in this Privacy Policy or with your permission.
  4. Your live therapy sessions are private and just between you and your therapist. We do not share this information with anyone other than your therapist except in very few situations where we are required to do so by the law or if you have permitted us to share it. We do not record or save any audio, video, or messages from these sessions unless you give us specific permission.
  5. We believe in being honest and open with you. You have choices and control over your personal information, and can manage cookies, opt out of certain communications, and can ask us to delete your account on your mobile app. You can let us know your choices or us any questions you have about these privacy principles or our Privacy Policy at privacy@joon.com
  6. We limit who can use our services to provide the best care possible and to comply with our legal obligations. Joon’s services are designed to help teens and young adults, ages 13 to 26. You need to be at least 13 years old to participate in therapy at Joon.

We’ve added a simple summary at the start of each part of our Privacy Policy that explains the content of that section. Please be sure to read the rest of the text too, because more detail is provided.

PERSONAL INFORMATION AND PERSONAL HEALTH INFORMATION

In our privacy policy, we use two important terms: Personal Information and Personal Health Information. It's important to understand the difference between them so you know what we protect and how we handle it.

Personal Information: Personal information is any information that can be used to identify you or contact you. This might include:

  • Your name
  • Your address
  • Your phone number
  • Your phone Device ID
  • Your email address
  • Your payment details (like credit card numbers or billing information)

We use personal information to help with things like billing, confirming your appointment, or sending you reminders. We may share this kind of information with others to provide the Services.

Protected Health Information: Protected health information is sensitive information about your physical or mental health. This includes:

  • Your mental health diagnoses
  • Your therapy or treatment plans
  • Any notes your therapist writes about your sessions or progress
  • Prescriptions or medications you've been given
  • Any health concerns you’ve shared with your therapist

Your Protected Health Information is protected by a law called  the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”) and we do not share it  unless required by law or if you agree to it for a specific reason, like sharing it with another healthcare provider for your care. The way we handle your protected health information is addressed in a separate privacy document called the HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices, available here.

(1)          SCOPE AND UPDATES TO THIS PRIVACY NOTICE

Summary:

  • This document tells you what kind of personal information, like your name, email, phone number, we collect from you when you use our website, mobile app, online therapy services, or other services, and how we use and share it. But if you are sharing your health-related information (like your mental health diagnoses, your therapy or treatment plans, or anything about your mental health), that is called protected health information. That kind of information is covered by a different privacy policy called the HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices that follows special health privacy rules. We might mention therapy services in this policy but that does not mean we are talking about your private treatment details or what you discuss in your sessions, those stay protected under the separate health privacy policy.
  • If you live in Washington, we must also follow a state law that protects your health information, which is explained in the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
  • We may have to change our Privacy Policy from time to time because there are laws that require us to do so or because we change the way we collect, use, or share personal information. If we change our Privacy Policy, we’ll let you know by posting the new version on our website, by sending you a message or by another means of notice.

This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we process on our website, www.joon.com, the Joon Teletherapy mobile app and our telehealth services supporting mental health and counseling needs. This includes teletherapy services for teens and young adults, and other online or offline offerings that link to, or are subject to, this Privacy Policy. "Process" refers to any action we take with personal information, such as collecting, using, storing, or sharing.  Joon provides its teletherapy services for teens and young adults through licensed mental health professionals working with Joon. To make this Privacy Policy easier to understand, we refer to our website, mobile app, teletherapy services, and other offerings as the “Services.”

Additional Privacy Notices. Joon may give extra privacy notices to users when we collect their personal information. These notices may add more details to this Privacy Policy or replace it completely.

HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices. This Privacy Policy does not cover how Joon Care Psychological Corporation handles your private health information. That’s because they, like all companies that handle Personal Health Information, have to follow a law called the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”). If you want to know how Joon Care Psychological Corporation handles and protects your health information, please check out their HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices. If you are in Washington and want to know more  about how we handle your “consumer health data” under a state law called the Washington My Health My Data Act, you can read our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.

Updates to Our Privacy Policy. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we do, we will post the updated Privacy Policy on our website or our mobile app. If we make any significant changes to how we collect, use or share your personal information, we will let you know.
